Obituary of Jose Salvador Martinez

Jose Salvador Martinez went to be with the Lord on January 14, 2022, at the age of 88, just three days shy of his 89th birthday. He was born January 17, 1933 in San Benito, TX to Salvador and Herminia Martinez. Jose S. Martinez honorably served his country with the United States Army shortly after WWII during the restoration of Europe in Germany and during the Korean War. Jose married the love of his life, Carmen Avalos, in 1952. The two of them were married for 69 years, until his passing.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Elina Rios and two brothers Ruben Martinez and Joel Martinez.
Jose is survived by his wife Carmen Martinez, three daughters: Diana Belinda (Robert) Rodriguez, Yolanda Martinez and Morelsa (Chris) Lingoni, eight grandchildren: Lisa Marie Ruvio, Yvette Ramirez, Robert ‘Tito’ Rodriguez, Joe Martinez, Laura Pinney, Sara Huerta, Monique Luis, and Luis Garza, and seventeen great-grandchildren, as well as his two sisters: Eunice Plata and Loida Gonzalez and three brothers: Elizar Martinez, Rene Martinez and Salvador Martinez.
Jose worked for CPL for 36 years monitoring meters and assisting with the lines and had a perfect work record of over 35 years without an accident.
Jose was an active member of his church community at San Benito Presbyterian Church.
Jose enjoyed fishing, BBQing and carpentry work. Jose was a devoted family man who spent his time with his family and loved ones.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 17, 2022 at Thomae Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, with a prayer service to be held at 7 pm. A Chapel Service will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at 2 pm at Thomae Garza Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.
All individuals are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines by socially distancing a minimum space of 6 feet apart and must wear face covers or masks. (May include bandanas or sewn or cloth face coverings).
