Obituary of Maria A. Ibarra

Maria Agapita “Guapa” Ibarra, 82 of Port Isabel TX was entered into eternal rest on December 31, 2021 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville, TX surrounded by her loving family. Guapa was born in Cedral San Luis Potosi MX on October 20, 1939. Daughter to the late Agustin Hernandez and Agricola Rodriguez. Guapa came to the United States of America at an early age and resided in Port Isabel TX. At the age of fifteen, Guapa met and later married the love of her life, Juan Ibarra on August 23, 1956. Through love and devotion they nurtured seven sons and daughters, who Guapa cherished until her passing. Aside from being homemaker, she was a driven multi-tasker who seldom let obstacles get her in way. As a homemaker and the wife of a shrimper, she ensured her children’s needs and home was tended to. She was a longtime member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church and for numerous years was a Visitante de Cristo and would serve Holy Communion to the ill in their homes. She is preceded in death by her Father; Agustin Hernandez, Mother; Agricola Rodriguez, Son; Juanito Ibarra, Brothers; Jose Francisco Herrera and Pedro Guzman. She is survived by her loving Husband of 65 years Juan Ibarra, Children: Alma Rosa Ibarra (Jorge), Luz Maria Rivera (Albert), Jeanette Cantu (Frankie), Juan Ibarra Jr, Joel Ibarra (Maria), and Javier Ibarra (Lorena). Sister Margarita “Maggie” (Dario) Martinez, Grandchildren: Vanessa Valverde (Issac), Hector Castillo Jr (Taylor), Alina Rivera (Roger), Juan Jose (JJ) Castillo, Rosalynn Castillo, Justin Cantu, Desirae Rivera (Daryl), Crystal Gutierrez, Javier Ibarra Jr and Annika Ibarra and seventeen Great-Grand Children. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January, 14, 2022 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S Longoria St, Port Isabel, TX with cremation to follow in accordance to her wishes. Honored to serve as pallbearers: Hector Castillo Jr, Juan Jose (JJ) Castillo, Javier Ibarra Jr, Justin Cantu, Dario Martinez Jr and Cameron Cecil Castillo. Honorary Pallbearers: Gael Sebastian Ramirez, Braxton James Castillo, Israel Martinez, Jayden Valverde and Carlos Ibarra Bazan. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Walk for Women, P.O. Box 2698 South Padre Island TX, 78597 or Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St., Port Isabel TX, 78578. All individuals are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines by socially distancing a minimum space of 6 feet apart and face covers or masks are recommended.
