Eliberto G. Martinez passed away on November 9, 2021, at the age of 99, at his home in San Benito, Texas. Although his recent years were about watching his favorite tv shows, his life was nothing compared to his active life that made him an outstanding citizen. Mr. Martinez served in the Army in Company H 363rd infantry from December 1942 to November 1945 during World War II where he climbed to the rank of Technician Fourth Grade and received an honorable discharge at Fort Sam Houston. Eliberto met his love of his life, Guadalupe while eating lunch at a local city establishment “El Taco Jardin” where she worked as a cook. They then got married in 1981 and started a lifelong journey together. Along with their marriage came three children. He enjoyed gathering with family and dancing the night away. There was never a dull moment when it came to him and his character. He was rich with knowledge and guided his family away from any wrongdoing. He is survived by his wife: Guadalupe Martinez, his children: Rosendo Martinez, Felipe Montalvo, and Miriam Montalvo-Cano. He is preceded by his brothers, Ovidio Martinez and Alfredo Martinez both of La Paloma, Texas. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, TX, with a Holy Rosary to be held at 7:00 pm. A Chapel Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas with interment to follow at San Benito Memorial Park. All individuals are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines by socially distancing a minimum space of 6 feet apart and must wear face covers or masks.
