Melchor "Choy" Salinas, Jr., 82, of Port Isabel, Texas passed away Wednesday August, 18, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was a lifetime resident of Port Isabel and member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. He was a member of the Spanish choir where he was most famous for playing the harmonica during mass and funerals. He worked as a shrimper in the shrimping industry and as a security guard at the Tiki Condominiums in South Padre Island. He was a loving husband and father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a very devoted Port Isabel Tarpon and Houston Texan fan. He was a true role model and was the epitome of what a true father should be. He was one to go for to seek advice. He is preceded in death by his father: Melchor Salinas, Sr., mother: Elvira T. Salinas, brothers: Ricardo, Juan, Martin, and Epifanio Salinas, sisters: Manuela Vela, Jesusa de la Garza and Luisa Cuellar. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 62 years: Margarita Salinas, son: Mario Alberto Salinas, daughter: Noemi “Mimi” Salinas, 5 grandchildren: Eddie Fuentes, Jr., Christabel Iris Sosa, Arianna Elysia Gonzalez, Angelina Rae Yzaguirre, and Benjamin Salinas, Jr., 9 great-grandchildren: Maya and Gracie Fuentes, Angel, Isaac and Keana Sosa, Carlos and Sebastian Tellez, Niko and Gianna Gonzalez. Visitation will be held Thursday August 26, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a holy rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral home in San Benito, Texas. Funeral Mass will be held Friday August 27, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church 705 S Longoria St, Port Isabel, TX 78578 with interment to follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, TX.
