Obituary of Rosa Galvan Salazar

Rosa Galvan Salazar, 100, went on to meet the good Lord on August 12, 2021.
She was a devoted mother and wife. Rosa was born in Brownsville, Texas on January 22, 1921. She was the youngest of 14 siblings. She lived in Las Yescas, Texas before moving to Rio Hondo, Texas in 1965.
After her husband’s demise she took care of her 7 children on her own. She worked as a housewife but managed to work in the cotton fields and ironing to make ends meet.
Her parents were Candelario Galvan (Jimenez) b. 1873, Texas, married Maria Zuniga. Their children were: Hilario Galvan, Juanita Galvan Soto, Francisco Galvan, Andres Galvan, Vicenta Galvan Perez, Maria Galvan Trevino, Eulalia Galvan, Cleto Galvan, Sara Galvan, Rosa Galvan Salazar, Marcelo Galvan married Eloisa Galvan, Brigido Galvan Zuniga, Pedro Galvan Zuniga, and Virginia Galvan Perez.
She is preceded in death by her husband: Timoteo Salazar Sr. “1959”, children: Maria E. Hudson “1978”, Larry Salazar “1995” and Timoteo Salazar, Jr. “2010.”
She is survived by her twin sister Sara Galvan (Brownsville, TX), daughters: Maria Julia (Maurice) Gilbert from Big Sandy, Texas, Felipe S. Lopez (Harlingen), Olga (Pete) Castillo, Neomi (Pete) Salinas, Rose Garcia and Joe Salazar all from Rio Hondo, Texas, 30 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, and 120 plus great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Monday August 16, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral home in San Benito, Texas.
A chapel service will be held Tuesday August 17, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral home with interment to follow at Las Yescas Cemetery.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are: Mike Gilbert, Robert Lopez, Abel Salazar, Ricardo Salinas, Eleazar “Lee” Salinas, and Rafael Ortega. Honorary pallbearers are the following: David Lopez, Steve Navarro, Matthew Gilbert, Jesse Salazar, James House and Paul Hudson.
All individuals are encouraged to social distance and wear face covers or masks. (May include bandanas or sewn or cloth face coverings).
