Donald Herbert Ludwig of South Padre Island, Texas and Kiel, Wisconsin, age 82, died on July 12, 2012 in Harlingen, Texas.
Don was born on June 6, 1930 in St. Paul, MN to Carl H. and Anita R. (Weber) Ludwig. He entered the U.S. Naval Reserves in 1947. Following his graduation from Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, he reported to active duty. Don was married to Mary M. (Peggy) Zufelt of Sheboygan, Wi in December of 1951 and celebrated 60 years of marriage this past December. Don and Peg moved to Kiel, WI where they lived and raised their family of five children. Don began his career-long employment at H.G. Weber & Co Inc. in Feb 1953, the company founded by his grandfather Herman G. Weber. Don greatly valued the friendship and knowledge of his colleagues at the H. G. Weber & Co Inc and made many friends during his travels around the world on behalf of the Weber Co.
Don was active in the Kiel Kiwanis Club, the Kiel Planning Commission, and the Kiel Chamber of Commerce. On South Padre Island Don was an active volunteer at the Sea Turtle, Inc. and a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Port Isabel, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; his children: Kate Ludwig of Green Bay, Peter (Bia) Ludwig of Winchester, VA; Teri (Stephen) Kruk of Lima, NY; David (Mary Belleau) Ludwig of Sheboygan, WI, Sheboygan; Patrick (Melody) Ludwig of Palmetto, Fl; seven grandchildren: Matthew ( Jamie Fraters) Turner, Andre (Toni) Ludwig, Tais Ludwig, Katharine Kruk (Brian) Spindler, Anne Kruk, Austin Ludwig, and Madeline Ludwig; and his beloved sister Trudi Ludwig Boese. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Carl Jr. and Richard H. Ludwig.
The family will be present between 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 to greet friends and well-wishers, with the funeral mass to follow at 3:00 pm at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church located at 705 S. Longoria St. in Port Isabel, Texas. Inurnment will follow at a later date at the Wildwood Cemetery, Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations may be made in Don Ludwig's memory to Sea Turtle, Inc., 6617 Padre Blvd., South Padre Island, Texas 78597 or to a charity of choice.
