Antonio Mercado Sr., 79, of San Benito, Texas was reunited with his loving wife of 56 years, Norma Govea, on Thursday, July 01, 2021. He was born in Mexticacan, Jalisco Mexico on June 13, 1942 to the late Octaviano Sr., and Maria Yanez Mercado. Antonio’s family moved to the United States when he was 3 years old. He grew up in a farm home in the community of Olmito, Texas. It is there where he shared many beautiful memories together with his younger siblings: Francisco (deceased), Octaviano Jr., Mari, and Javier. In 1967, Antonio’s family moved to San Benito, Texas. It was here in San Benito that he met the love of his life, Norma Govea. Together Tony and Norma Govea raised Antonio Jr., Armando, Patricia, Arnoldo, and Alberto. In 2002, Antonio Mercado retired from the Texas Department of Transportation after 33 years of service. After Antonio’s retirement he cared for his wife, did yard work around his home, and enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved sharing stories about his younger years and all his life experiences. Left to cherish his memories and retell his stories are 5 children, 16 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Friday July 9, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. A chapel service will be held Saturday July 10, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomae Garza Funeral Home in San Benito with burial to be held at a later date.
