Luz M. Vazquez de Berrios, better known to most as “Dona Lucy” or “Rosa Luz”, of Brownsville, TX, passed away on June 24, 2021 in Olmito, TX. Luz was born in Juncos, Puerto Rico to Silverio Vazquez and Ramona Rivera on November 18, 1935. She went to Central High School in Santurce, PR and graduated in 1955. Luz completed an Associate Degree in Secretarial Science and worked for a wholesale distributor before joining Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. of Puerto Rico in 1963. At Pepsi Cola Luz worked her way up from a Secretary to Human Resources Administrator. On her HR role Luz was responsible for a wide range of functions including payroll, benefits, employee union affairs, and the coordination of employee engagement events. After a long and successful career at Pepsi Cola, Luz retired after 28 years of service to enjoy her time with family and friends. Luz and her husband Samuel moved to Brownsville, TX in 2001 to be closer to their daughter Yolanda and her family. Luz take charge personality, love for her family, attention to details, and loyalty to family and friends were known to those who knew her. She loved to cook, dance, travel, and foremost was a proud and loving Grandma. She is survived by Sons: Samuel (Margarita) Berrios, Juan Ramon (Lissie) Berrios, and Daughter: Yolanda (Dr. Jose) Ayala, Granddaughters: Dr. Jennifer Andrew, Stephanie Roorda, Elizabeth Ayala, Melissa Berrios, Nathalie Ayala, Greatgrandchildren: Kason Roorda, Avery Andrew, Kieran Roorda, Mikaela Andrew, and Nephew, Ivan Vazquez. Luz was preceded in death by Samuel, her loving husband of 62 years, Parents: Silverio Vazquez and Ramona Rivera, Brother: Ivan Vazquez, and Nephew: Roland Vazquez. Services and burial plans will be announced at a later date.
