Obituary of Javier Arnulfo Lopez

Javier Arnulfo Lopez, “Kiko” to family and friends from Port Isabel TX has passed away after a long battle with Parkinson’s on May 20, 2021 and is with the Lord, he was 89.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Nestor and Charlota Lopez and his sister Ofelia Cisneros.
Kiko lived a long life and will best be remembered by the legacy he leaves behind, his family. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Guillermina “Chata” M. Lopez. His three children, Javier A Lopez, Jr., of Harlingen TX, Mirta Lopez (Mark Mountford) also from Harlingen and Joel Lopez (Maryjane) of Los Fresnos TX. Two brothers, Nestor Lopez (Lydia) from Port Isabel TX and Eduardo Lopez (Gloria) of Baytown TX and a sister Corina Camacho (Isaac+)from Port Isabel TX. Kiko also leaves 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandsons, Delisa Rosado (Mark) from Laporte TX, Jacob D. Lopez (Claudia) from Port Isabel TX, Javier “Trey” A. Lopez III from Rock Port TX, Elijah J. Lopez and Noah J. Lopez from Los Fresnos TX. Two great grandsons Gracen Harris and Remi Rosado from La Porte TX and numerous nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Port Isabel High School (The Battling Tarpons) he joined the Air Force in September 1952. He received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Medal and the Korean Service Medal. The decorated Korean War Veteran was honorably discharged in Sept 1956 and returned to Port Isabel. Kiko married the love of his life in 1959 and built his long successful career with the Laguna Madre Water District, (formerly known as Cameron County Fresh Water Supply District #1), retiring as the General Manager in 1995. Throughout his long life he was a dedicated father and grandfather and was involved with his family and community. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served its a Post Commander for the organization. As a former Tarpon football player of the 1st team ever formed in Port Isabel, he was a loyal fan and supporter of the Port Isabel Tarpons Quarterback Club. Kiko’s most favorite pastimes after retirement were, sitting on his front porch listening to corridos while drinking coffee, fishing, spending time with his grandkids, watching classic westerns and boxing matches.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas from 5:00 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.
A Mausoleum Service will be held Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Buena Vista Cemetery in Brownsville, Texas. Military Honors will be conducted by VFW Post 2035 from Brownsville, Texas.
All individuals are encouraged to social distance and wear face covers or masks.
