Guadalupe Gonzales, age 73, passed away Saturday, January 2nd, 2021, surrounded by her family.
Lupe was born in Brownsville, Texas. As a child, she moved to Hammond, Indiana, with her parents and siblings, and in the 1980s, moved back to the Brownsville area with her then retired parents. She was extremely close with her mother, Theresa. Lupe had five daughters, and her life revolved around them and her nine grandchildren.
She worked for 13 years at the Port Isabel Detention Center, first as a detention officer and, later, as a lieutenant. She retired in 2007. When Lupe wasn't visiting or caring for her beloved grandchildren, she enjoyed drawing and playing her computer games. Family was her priority.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Theresa Gonzalez; her brother, Jesus Gonzalez.
She is survived by her siblings, Isaac Gonzalez, Abel Gonzalez, and Rose (Robert) Benoit; her daughters, Anna (Tony Zurek) Morales, Rebecca (Jim Rynne) Morales, Yolanda Morales, Veronica (Julio) Quintero, and Christina Garcia; her grandchildren, Michael, Robert, Ashley, Jesus, Jr., Caleb, Caitlyn, Dakota, Emmalee, and Matthew.
We find comfort in the truth that our Mom lives today in a way that we can't begin to imagine with our Lord. We know that she is with her best friend, her mother, sitting at the kitchen table, drinking coffee and reminiscing. Mom, you will never be forgotten and will live in our hearts forever! We love you Mom.
