Please share a memory of Ciro to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ciro De La Garza, age 89, left us to meet his Lord, Saturday, December 19, 2020. Ciro, was born on March 13, 1931, in his beloved Port Isabel to father Ciro De La Garza and mother Augustina Chapa. Ciro enjoyed telling stories of going fishing with his grandfather and crossing the channel from Port to the Island in a small boat. Although he mentioned, he never understood the point of sitting in the sun all day doing nothing with hopes of catching a fish. At the young age of 16, and at the height of the Korean War, he decided to enlist in the Army. He served our country proudly as an infantryman during his years in the service. He was honorably discharged and returned to civilian life. While living and working in Edinburg TX. he met the first love of his life, Maria Amparo Vera, his first wife. Together they had six children and lived in San Antonio, TX. While in San Antonio, Ciro worked with the Bexar County Hospital, Ambulance departments and the City of San Antonio Detective division. After the death of his wife, Ciro moved back to Port Isabel, where he met and married his second love of his life, Librada Reyes. Ciro loved to draw, do oil paintings, woodwork, and design ships in bottles. He was loved by all his grandchildren. As his eldest grandson Eric Bowen said; “grandpa was an incredibly artistic person and dedicated to his art.” Ciro passed away peacefully in his sleep. He will be missed by all his family and friends.
