Obituary of Juan P. Gonzalez

Juan Placencia Gonzalez, age 64, of Port Isabel, TX has gone to be with the Lord.
He passed away on December 14, 2020 due to health complications while out on a fishing trip on his boat.
Juan was born and raised in Port Isabel, Texas. He worked many of his early years as a shrimper and fisherman. He also dedicated many years to working as a maintenance worker when he was not out at sea. In his spare time, Juan could be found fishing out in the Lower Laguna Madre.
He was a well-liked citizen of this community. Almost everyone he met instantly became a friend to him. He enjoyed taking his family and friends out on his boat for fishing trips. Whenever anyone needed a major appliance or their vehicle fixed, they immediately knew to call on Juan because he could fix just about anything. He genuinely enjoyed being helpful to others.
Juan is survived by his wife of 45 years, Maricela Gonzalez, and their three children Denise Gonzalez, Melissa (Victor) Gonzalez Santos, and Johnny (Brenda) Gonzalez. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Alani Gonzalez, Julius Gonzalez, Alejandro Santos, Pablo Santos, Jeffrey Garcia, Jonathan Garcia, and Jacob Garcia.
He is survived by his sisters, Noya (Julian+) Hernandez, Carmen (Reyes+) Troncoso, Evangelina (Alberto+) Barrera, America (Samuel) Gonzalez Lopez, Brothers: Francisco (Isabel+) Martinez, Carlos (Angelina) Gonzalez, Abelardo (Nacha) Gonzalez, Arnulfo (Ana) Gonzalez, and Anselmo (Elva) Gonzalez.
Juan Placencia Gonzalez will be deeply missed not only by his family but by the entire community.
He is preceded in death by his Father: Cayetano Gonzalez, Mother: Eufrocina Gonzalez, Brothers: Cayetano Gonzalez, Federico Gonzalez, Pancho Gonzalez, Pedrito Gonzalez, Jesus Gonzalez, Martin Placencia Herbert, Sisters: Reyes Salinas, Rita De La Garza, Estela Castillo, Tomasa Hernandez, and Balvina Pena.
Due to current COVID restrictions, this establishment will follow the 25% occupancy limit and all persons shall institute social distancing of a minimum space of 6 feet apart. All individuals must wear face coverings or masks.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday December 22, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on December 23, 2020 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church 705 S. Longoria Street, Port Isabel, TX 78578. Interment will follow at Port Isabel City Cemetery.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are: Carlos Gonzalez, Anselmo Gonzalez, Jr., Albert Barrera, Marco Antonio Barrera, Juan Barrera, Alex Gonzalez, Carlos Rene Gonzalez, and Javier Hernandez.
