Samuel Garza “El Oso”, 72, of Port Isabel went to be with the Lord surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday October 7, 2020. He was a long time member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. He was a Captain Shrimper and spent many years in the shrimping industry. He loved his family and grandchildren. In addition, he loved music, dancing, fishing, and the Dallas Cowboys.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Juan Garza and Zoila Barrera, daughter: Hilda Garza, stepfather: Jesus Barrera, brothers: Nicolas Barrera and Rodolfo Barrera, and 1 sister: Serafina Garza.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Maria Guadalupe Sanchez-Garza, children: Lucia (Alex) Nino, Samuel (Mirna) Garza Jr., Salvador (Daisy) Garza, Nancy (Roger) Garza-Faz, Mayra (Carlos) Garza-Sierra, Maria (Sergio) De la Garza and Serafina Garza. 25 Grandchildren, 7 Great Granchildren. 4 Brothers: Juan Garza, Jesus Barrera, Jr., Raul Barrera, Guadalupe Barrera; 3 sisters, Maria Luisa Cardenas Sanchez, Catalina Sanchez Galicia, and Yolanda Sanchez Galicia; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He is also survived by his “brothers in Christ” Chuy “Chicho” Moreno and Carlos Sierra.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas.
Funeral Mass will held Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady of The Star of The Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria Street in Port Isabel, TX with burial to follow at Port Isabel City Cemetery, Texas.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are: Samuel Garza, Jr, Salvador Garza, Jaime Rivera, Jr., Jay Anthony Nino, Matthew Lee Garza, Ethan Isaiah Garza, Eli A. Garza, Oscar Garza, Jr., and Sergio de la Garza, Jr.
Due to current restrictions, this establishment will follow the 25% occupancy limit and all persons shall institute social distancing of a minimum space of 6 feet apart. All individuals must wear face coverings or masks. (may include bandanas or sewn or cloth face coverings).
