Ruben Reyes, born January 28, 1953, passed away on July 21, 2020 at Houston Methodist Hospital in Clear Lake, Texas at the age of 67. Ruben graduated from Los Fresnos High School in 1972. His was an outstanding athlete while at Los Fresnos earning district honors playing football and baseball. He earned a four-year letter for the Falcons (#70, 1968- 1972) as a tackle on both offense and defense After graduation, Ruben worked as a welder at Marathon LeTourneau in the port of Brownsville. His passion and love for cars eventually took over which led him to work for Pueblo Tires, Kelly Tires, and Pep Boys for many years. His love for sports was always on display. He played football and baseball in high school, watched boxing, played billiards, and was often spotted supporting friends and family when someone was drag-racing or motorcycle racing. In the most recent years of his life, he loved spending time with his brothers roaming around the Valley and with his special friend, Consuelo (Chelo) Mendoza visiting flea markets and caring for the pets at home. But, his number one love was his son, Ruben Reyes, Jr. His eyes would gleam with pride when talking about his son and his son’s accomplishments.
