Pedro Colunga, age 85, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on August 28, 2020.
In his lifetime, he was proud to be a member of the Knights of Columbus (4th Degree). He helped establish and served as a member of the Board of Directors for the South Texas Conjunto Music Hall of Fame and the Narciso Martinez Cultural Arts Center. He worked for Rio Elevator Company for 20 years as an elevator mechanic before retiring. Pedro was known for his humor and his faith in god, serving as an usher at St. Benedicts Catholic Church for several years. In his spirit he carried the soul of Saint Peter the apostle who was noted to show “great loyalty and love” (John 21:15-17). He was a devoted friend and mentor to many, always at someone’s service. He was a blessing to his family. He leaves behind a legacy that will honor his name for the rest of their lives.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Clara Colunga, sister Bernardina Lucio, sister-in-law Manuela Miranda, 8 children, 22 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and large extended family.
Due to current restrictions, this establishment will follow the 25% occupancy limit and all persons shall institute social distancing of a minimum space of 6 feet apart. All individuals must wear face coverings or masks.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Thomae Garza Funeral Home.
A chapel service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at Thomae Garza Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
