Grandma.
# Your not kidding!!
Her famous words!
We love you.
We have countless
Memories of growing up at your house. From Easter egg hunts in the front yard to everyone spending the night to open all our gifts Christmas morning. I mean all of us. Not a spot left in the living room. Grandma making us atole de arroz and tortillas with sugar on Christmas morning.
Our family Olympics in the field behind your house. All of this took place year after year growing up. Roller skating on the smooth road down the block. The 10 cent raspa lady down the street. Jumping off the tree in her front yard. The Infamous Big M convenience store. Sliding down the freeway on cardboard boxes and Chuy or I rolling down the freeway inside a tire. I don’t know how Chuy and I would be the only ones to be volunteered to be the ones placed inside the tires. Any moment one of us could get killed but you would be there grandma just watching us from the window.
So many memories of our beloved grandma Vickie.
She was there every step of the way for momma Janie’s Cancer battle. From countless trips to Houston, Galveston and occasional Dallas trips to see my family. She was so strong for Janie. She was strong for all of us she had to be.
Her life was no picnic. She had many children to feed and raise all on her own. That is what made her strong. Yet with all her struggles she managed to be happy. I can’t ever remember seeing her stressed out or worried. I can only remember her getting angry once. It was when us kids kicked in the walls in the house behind her house. We broke all the sheet rock inside the house. Grandma found out and came into the house to kick us out. She was cussing us out. She got us out of the house and as she slammed the door glass shattered and the glass cut her face. I just remember being terrified of what mom would do when she got home and Grandma told her what we did.
But our grandma was so kind she never spanked us.
She was so beautiful. I loved her sense of style and her charisma. She was just cool.
She loved dancing and going to the dance halls in Mercedes with her best friend Monica. They were so cute. They would get ready together to go out. I remember one night being at her house while she and Monica were getting ready to go out. She asked Monica what she should wear. Monica told her “wear something naughty”. Many of us here had to go and pick those two up at the bars. One time I had to bail her out of jail. She only had two drinks But somehow managed to get pulled over and arrested on a DUI. Probably for not turning on her blinker. She was absolutely sober. Mom, Yoli and I went to Bail her out of jail. She came out so embarrassed walking out of jail still looking cute in her leopard tights. She was so upset. I said grandma it’s not your fault you weren’t drunk we will fight this. She was very responsible. She would limit herself and her and Monica would turns being designated drivers. They didn’t go to get drunk they went to dance. Grandma loved music and dancing.
She is gone to be with Janie and Howard but her legacy will continue in all of us. Her legacy of love, pride in her family and her resiliency to overcome hardships will continue in all of us.
She is our legacy. Whether we’re upset at different little things that are upsetting us right now we can reflect on her. We all loved her so much and she loved us. We need to continue her legacy to love one another and stay close. It’s time to rejoice and celebrate her life. She is looking down on us now. Happy that we are all together. Let’s keep it that way!
Let’s keep this Sauseda family love and pride going!!

When Mom smiled at you she could light up your soul, and you know she'll be waiting for us all with that smile! Love you mom!

You were one of my first best friends grandma. I will always remember spending time with you watching Dynasty, Knots Landing and Dallas. You were the original "Golden Girl" and I will forever cherish the memories we had together.
