I remember Emilio from when we were kids, starting in the catholic school. He later moved to the public school. Eventually we joined back up in high school. We played football for the Tarpons and other sports and we graduated from Port Isabel High School in 1958. I saw him briefly at the last high school reunion and he looked great. So sorry to learn of his passing. Time sure flies.

De mi parte y de parte de mi espoa, nuestro mas sentido pésame. Participamos con profundo dolor.
When I was city attorney for Port Isabel, Emilio taught me the difference between "law school law " and "The law on the street ". We were driving around together just before 2 o'clock in the morning on Emilio 's shift and he saw someone driving drunk ; he stopped the car , grabbed the keys, took the man out of the car , and walked him down the block a few houses to the man's home . Emilio woke up the man's wife handed her the keys , told her that he the man had to go plead guilty the next morning or she would be in trouble , and for goodness sake don't let him drive anymore
Along the way , the man had punched Emilio a number of times . I remarked to Emilio, "That's an aggravated assault on a police officer!" Emilio replied, " Nah,we get paid to put up with that stuff."I asked why Emilio had not arrested the man for DWI and he said it would have taken the rest of the evening to take him to Brownsville andf fill out all the forms, and besides the dance Hall was going to let people out at 2 o'clock and there would be people there that he really needed to take into custody.
I will miss his smile and I will always appreciate his letting me know the difference between what they taught me in law school and the things that really happen in the real world.
QEPD.

With deepest sympathy to the family. Our dad and Emilio were top notch shrimpers and our parents became best friends. He’s now joined them in paradise
