Sofia Vega Carrillo, 77, of Port Isabel, Texas, passed away on April 9, 2012 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Sofia was born and raised in Port Isabel, Texas. She was a pantry chef for the Radisson Resort on South Padre Island for 19 years. She was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Port Isabel where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She participated in the Guadulapana, the Spanish Choir, the Cookie Club, and the C.C.E. classes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodolfo Carrillo Jr.; her parents: Juan R. and Isabel B. Vega; and two brothers: Eliseo B. "Cheo" Vega and Porfirio "Pilo" Vega. She is survived by her son and daughter: Rodolfo (Angie) Carrillo III of South Padre Island and Esther Carrillo of Port Isabel; four grandchildren: Sofie Carrillo, Reina Carrillo, Noe Gasca Jr., and Hannah Carrillo; her great-granddaughter Ryley Galvan; sisters: Maria del Rosario Vega-Ochoa and Beatrice (Juan) Zapata, both of Port Isabel; and her brother, Jose Añorga of Deer Park, Texas. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. Visitation will continue at 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a holy rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church located on 705 S. Longoria St in Port Isabel, Texas. Mass of Resurrection will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Committal service will follow to Port Isabel City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are: Juan C. Zapata, Joe Eliseo Vega, Juan Vega, Bennie Ochoa III, Rene Valdez, and Robert Salinas. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Noe Gasca Jr and Greg Ruiz Jr. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made in memory of Sofia Vega Carrillo to Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
