Ruben Chavez, Sr., 48 of San Benito, Texas, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2020, in Harlingen, Texas. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Ruben was a truck driver for 20+ years. He opened a church this past year and loved singing and praising the Lord and sharing the word of God. He was a humble man and loved Jesus very much. He will be deeply missed. He is preceded in death by his father, Roberto Chavez, Sr.; brother, Roberto Chavez; and sister, Norma Chavez. Ruben is survived by his loving wife, Norma Chavez; children, Ruben Chavez Jr. (Laura Lumbreras), Raul Chavez, Roel Chavez, Ryan Chavez, Roman Chavez, and Robby Chavez; grandchildren, Ruby Amaiyah Chavez and Rosalyn Ava Chavez; his mother, Higinia Chavez; siblings, Raquel Lopez, Rene Chavez (Erika), Rosendo Chavez, Guadalupe Moya (Jose), and Elena Chavez; along with various cousins. A visitation will begin Tuesday, June 23, 2020, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at Primera Iglesia De Salvacion, 230 S. Oscar Williams Rd., San Benito, Texas, and burial will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas. Due to current restrictions, this establishment will follow the 50% occupancy limit and all persons shall institute social distancing of a minimum space of 6 feet apart.
