Maria De Jesus Hernandez, 96 of San Benito, Texas, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2020, at her residence in San Benito. She was born in Ocampo, Guanajuato Mexico on Jan 1, 1924, and a lifelong resident of San Benito, TX, where she married at a very young age and had 16 children. Maria farmed for many years up north to numerous cities with all her children and grandchildren. She spent a lot of her time at the Harlingen Adult Daycare Center where she met many wonderful people and enjoyed playing chalupa and eating with all her friends. Everyone who knew her knew her for her kindness. She dedicated her life to raise all her kids and grandchildren with all the kindness of her heart till the very end. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Gregorio Martinez and Francisco Hernandez; daughters, Andrea Cantu and Maria de la luz de los Rios; son, Francisco Hernandez Jr.; and her mother, Apolinaria Garcia. Maria is survived by her children, Agapito Martinez (Elida), Ramona Martinez-Jimenez (Julio), Andy Martinez (Estela), and Martha Esparza (Raul Jr.); grandchildren, Gonzalo Hernandez, Tomas Hernandez, David Hernandez, Mary Davila, Gabriel Martinez, Ismael Trevino, Maribel Pedraza, Rigo Rangel, Corina Lee Galvan,Frank Hernandez III, Noe Barrientos, Kiana Rosalez, Raul Esparza III, Teresa Rosalez, Stevie Rae Esparza, and Nicholas Esparza; and sister, Carmen Diaz. The family would like to add a special thanks you to her 24/7 provider Dora Elia Garcia. Visitation will begin Friday, May 29, 2020, from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. A chapel service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2020, at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home, with burial to follow at San Benito Memorial Park. Due to current restrictions, this establishment will follow the 25% occupancy limit of 50 persons or less and all persons shall institute social distancing of a minimum space of 6 feet apart.
