Obituary of Fidel M. Barrera
Please share a memory of Fidel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Fidel Barrera, 70 years of age, Los Fresnos/Port Isabel passed away at home on May 19, 2020.
Fidel Barrera was known by “Pop”, “B-Bobber”, and “La Colmena” to his family and many close friends. Pop was a family man. Many of his weekends were spent around the BBQ pit with his family. As we filled the air with love, laughter, and a lot of chisme, Pop would sit on his throne (reserved only for the Pitmaster) and take in the life he created. Every occasion amongst his family was celebrated “at Pop’s”. In the evenings you could find Pop relaxing in bed watching alien conspiracy shows or old westerns. He also enjoyed karaoke by the water and bargain shopping with his sisters, Camila and Yolanda. Fidel was a well-respected and loved man. He was never hesitant to lend a hand or help those in need. Fidel was an exceptional husband. The life he built with his wife and their marriage of 52 years is something to be admired. Pop was a DEDICATED lottery player, sadly he never did win BIG enough to take his trip to Hawaii with the love of his life.
Fidel is preceded in death by his father, Modesto Barrera, and his mother, Ignacia Martinez Barrera.
Fidel is survived by his wife, Maria Garcia Barrera, and their children, Anne B. Vasquez, Alicia Barrera, and Fidel Barrera Jr.(Anisa); his siblings, Rafael Barrera, Modesto Barrera Jr., Guadalupe Barrera, Camila B. Rocha, Yolanda Barrera, Fermin Barrera and Andres Hunt; his grandchildren, Iris Pena Garcia, Magdaleno Pena Jr., Amanda Vasquez, Malcolm Pena, Fernando Vasquez Jr., Ryan Barrera, Megan Vasquez, and Troy Barrera; and his 13 great-grandchildren.
Fidel’s memory will live on through those that loved him, in accordance to his wishes cremation services were held.
