Please accept my belated condolences to all the family and close friends of Carl Christensen. I just learned of his passing and I am so sad to hear this news. His beloved wife, Peggy Levings Christensen, was my roommate in Brownsville during our very first year of teaching. I left the area after a year, but I never left Peggy in spirit. We corresponded for a long time. I could discern in her letters and notes how happy she was with Carl Christensen. Together, they built a happy life, full of purpose, meaning, and laughter. Their love and support of each other was inspiring. I know you all must miss them both, but I am so glad you have wonderful memories to cherish. Both were wonderful, caring, accomplished people. Unforgettable. Wish I could have spent more time with them in later years. RIP to Carl and Peggy.

Julia and Ben, my condolences on your loss. Your father was an inspiration to many and definitely someone who left a lasting impression on me. Like many leaving commentary, he was my teacher. I can say that he taught me more than the curriculum, he prepared me for life. It was the simple little things he would say, the comments, the jokes, the motivation. I recently spoke of his wisdom in one of my meetings, explaining words he once passed on to me. Not more than a few days later, I was given the sad news.
I was very fortunate to have crossed paths with him and quite frankly your family. May you all take comfort in his fruitful life and his legacy.
Respectfully,
Homero Torres

I’m sad for the loss of the father and grandfather who so dearly loved his family. Of course we are certain he is in a better place but that doesn’t stop us from missing him or having to adjust as we move on without him now. Many of you know Carl was tough. I appreciated having a father-in-law who was also a Marine. We shared that bond. What I appreciated most about Carl was how encouraging he was. He always had an encouraging word for you. For the younger ones, he clapped a lot for the grandchildren and loved to hold them and smile at them. They loved him back and always had a smile for him. Carl was a great and strong man in an often quiet way. It is my privilege to be a part of his family and to have been a part of his life.

Mr. Christensen was a favorite teacher for many in Port Isabel. He inspired me to understand and appreciate so much. I loved his sense of humor, his bow tie, and his patience with me and my slide rule. I loved him as a teacher and a human being. Rest in peace, Mr. Christensen.

Carl was my brother in law, and one of the most interesting men I have ever known. He was gruff and tough, but had the biggest heart and heartiest laugh. He will be sorely missed by so many. Hugs and prayers for the whole family.
