Januario “El Oso” Alvarado, 79 of San Benito, Texas, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2020, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He is preceded in death by three sons, Arnulfo Alvarado, Juan Cruz Alvarado, and Andres Alvarado; parents, Tomas and Merced Beltran Alvarado; two brothers, Roberto Alvarado and Guadalupe Alvarado, and his stepmother, Beatrize Medina Alvarado. Januario is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Eduviges “Vicky” Alvarado; three daughters, Patricia (Juan) Lopez, Blanca (Jesus) Alvarez, and Isabel Alvarado; three sons, Steve (Yvonne) Alvarado, Jesus Alvarado, and Tomas Alvarado; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; five brothers, Juan Alvarado, Santiago Alvarado, Tomas “Paul” Alvarado, Benjamin Alvarado, and Jose Lemus; and five sisters, Xochil Hernandez, Maria Holliman, Martha Hernandez, Lourdes Alvarado, and Juana Elena “Janie” Ramirez. Visitation will begin Tuesday, February 4, 2020, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a holy rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1300 Combes St., San Benito, Texas. Cremation will follow in accordance to his wishes.
