Obituary of Maria Consuelo Garza

Consuelo Garza, 79, entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Solara Hospital in Harlingen. She was born December 26, 1932 to the late Gaspar and Anita Saldana Garza. "Chelo" was a dedicated teacher for over 45 years. She started her teaching career in Brownsville at J.T. Canales Elementary School. She then came to San Benito in 1963, where she taught migrant students at Fred Booth Elementary. She continued teaching in San Benito until retiring from La Paloma Elementary. Chelo will be remembered by many students, friends, and family whom were blessed to have known her. Left to cherish her memory are: Maria Carmen Saldaña, Minerva (Willie) Rosales, Ray (Mary Lou) Saldaña, Hilda (Ramiro) Partida, Richard (Linda) Saldaña, Ruben Saldaña, all of San Benito; Raul (Tina) Saldaña of Weslaco, Norma Saldaña of Brownsville, Yolanda (Paul) Hernandez of Universal City, Robert (Diana) Saldaña of San Antonio; and several cousins, aunts, and uncles. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a holy rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. Mass of Resurrection will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at St. Benedict Catholic Church in San Benito. Committal service will follow to Mont Meta Memorial Park.
