Maria Elena “Maruca” Gonzalez, 70, of Port Isabel, Texas, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2020 in Harlingen, Texas. Maria was a lifetime resident of Port Isabel, Texas and a lifelong member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. She worked for 30 years as a manager at U.S. Shell, Inc. She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Paula Davila Fernandez; one sister, Hortencia San Miguel; as well as her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Antonio Sr and Casilda Gonzalez. Surviving Maria is her husband of 49 years, Antonio “Pichie” Gonzalez Jr.; her daughter Jennifer (Gerardo) Lopez; her son Jimmy (Natalie) Gonzalez; six grandchildren: Jaden Lopez, Jocelyn Lopez, Nathan Gonzalez, Nia Gonzalez, Noelle Gonzalez, and Nolynn Gonzalez; five sisters: Dora (Jimmy) Moore, Olga (Danny) Barnes, Manuela “Nela” (Mike) Vasquez, Ester (Robert) Garcia, Janie (Jim) Wells; three brothers: Frank (Hilda) Fernandez, Fernando (Frances) Fernandez, and Juan Manuel Fernandez; as well as several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a holy rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church located at 705 S. Longoria Street in Port Isabel, Texas. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2020, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church and burial will follow at Port Isabel City Cemetery in Port Isabel, Texas.
