Obituary of Matthew Joseph Carter
Matthew Joseph Carter passed away in Austin, Texas at the age of 46.
Matthew was born in Portland, Oregon to Charles and Linda Carter, the youngest of four children on May 31, 1973. He attended Catholic grade and high school, graduating in 1991 from La Salle in Portland. He went onto college, graduating with a bachelor’s in communications from Southern Oregon State University.
Throughout his life he was a force on the stage, sharing his vocal talents with as few as one to as many as thousands. For decades he cantered and participated in many church choirs as a booming baritone. During his journey, he sang with both the Portland Gay Men’s Chorus as well as the Los Angeles Gay Men’s Choir. His last performances were this past November with the Austin Opera as a chorus member in their production of Rigoletto. He would light up any room or stage, bringing joy and song to those around him.
