Obituary of Marcelino Velasquez Espinoza

Marcelino “Lino” Velásquez Espinoza, 92 of Los Fresnos, Texas, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2019.

Our beloved Marcelino “Lino” Velásquez Espinoza was called to be with the Lord on Friday, November 15, 2019, at his home in Los Fresnos, Texas. Marcelino was 92 years old and was to be 93 on Saturday, November 23rd. He was born in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon and raised in Matamoros, Tamaulipas. He worked many years as a laborer in farm and agriculture. Marcelino was a hard-working and loving father, son, husband, grandfather, great grandfather, and a great friend to many over the years. He loved raising animals in his farm in Mexico and telling us his childhood stories. Marcelino retired at the age of 65 and moved to Los Fresnos in 2007 where he spent his remaining years relaxing, playing lotería (his favorite), and making new friends.

Marcelino “Lino” Velasquez, our dear father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, we think about you always, we talk about you still.  We hold you close with our hearts and there you will remain to walk and guide us through our lives until we meet again. We will always love you and may you rest in peace.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Maria Treviño de Velásquez; daughter, Hortencia “Tencha” Uresti; father, Isidro Velásquez; mother, Antonia Espinoza; and brothers, Primitivo Velásquez, Octaviano Velásquez, Agustín Velásquez.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Emilio (Concepción) Velásquez; Graciela (Evaristo) Imperial; Lydia Zuñiga, Lourdes Velásquez, Isidro Velásquez, Mario Alberto Velásquez, Gilberto Velásquez, and Arturo Velásquez; 34 grandchildren; 64 great grandchildren; and 15 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will begin Friday, November 22, 2019, from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a holy rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2019, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Los Fresnos, Texas and burial will follow at Los Cuates Cemetery.
