Obituary of Violanda Avalos Tamez

Violanda Avalos Tamez, 72 of San Benito, Texas, passed away Monday, October 14, 2019. She was born July 20, 1947 in San Benito.

Viola was a lifelong resident of the Rio Grande Valley. Her family was very important to her, and she was especially proud of her five sons. All five sons played football at San Benito High School, and any given Friday night during football season Viola could be found at the football stadium cheering on her sons. Viola was very patriotic and loved her country very much. She was very loyal and supportive to her family, and she also enjoyed spending time with her wonderful neighbors and great friends. Most of all, Viola’s faith was of utmost importance to her ... she loved her Lord, Jesus Christ, and was a devout Christ-follower.  She will be greatly missed by so many.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Guadalupe and Felipa Avalos; brother, Lupe Avalos; sisters, Lupita Plouffe and Veronica A. Reyes; sons, Reynaldo Martinez and Rolando (Coy) Martinez.

Viola is survived by her sons, Romeo (MaryAnn) Subialdea, Richard (Tanya) Subialdea, and Jay (Michelle) Martinez; siblings, Beatrice Avalos, Mary Jane Avalos, Victor (Rosie) Avalos, Jose (Crystal) Avalos, and Dora Alicia Avalos; grandchildren, Bradley Subialdea, Michael Subialdea, Meisha Meyer, Courtney Trevino, Tyler Trevino, and Jason Martinez; 3 great grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 18, 2019, at Livingway Family Church, 1234 E. New Hampshire, Harlingen, Texas.
