Mr. Victor M. González Sr. 86, of Brownsville, passed away peacefully at Valley Baptist Medical Center on Friday, February 24, 2012 at 3:30 p.m. He was surrounded by his loving son, daughters, sisters, and grandchildren. Mr. González was preceded in death by his wife, Socorro A. González, son, Dr. Victor M. González Jr., grandson, Chester R. "Sparky" González Jr., and siblings; Marciano, Maria and Enrique González. Mr. González was born in Ocotlan, Jalisco on January 14, 1926. He attended school in Tampico, Tamaulipas, where he met his wife of 62 years, Socorro Amieva. The couple immigrated to the United States in 1952 and lived in Chicago, Illinois and eventually moved to Brownsville, Texas, where they lived and raised their family for over 50 years. Mr. González is survived by his children Chester R. González (Judge Janet Leal), Yolanda González, Patricia A. González-Portillo (Raul Portillo), Mariana González, and Clara Mae Sandel. He is also survived by his daughter in law, Elena Orvañanos González and grandchildren, Adriana Gonzalez Orvañanos (Jose Ricardo Cisneros), Gaby González Orvañanos, Alejandro Fuentes Jr., Daniela Fuentes, Vanessa González, Victor and Victoria González, Alan Raul Portillo, April King, Jose Carlos and Paul Garcia González; two sisters, Josefina and Guillermina González, and numerous nieces and nephews. The González family will be receiving visitors beginning at 5:00 p.m. Monday, February 27, 2012 with a Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1914 Bernard Road in Brownsville; Visitation will continue on Tuesday February 28, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with The Mass of Resurrection will begin at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow to Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Brownsville. The family would like to give special thanks to the following people for Mr. González' compassionate care: his loving niece, Irma Alicia Peña Amieva; the staff at Sunglo Home Health Services, Border Home Health, and Abundant Life Home Health; Alan, Lulu, Josefina, Anita, Luis, Viola, Letty, Janet, Simona, as well as doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists at Valley Baptist Medical Center, Odyssey Hospice Care, and Mr. Albert "Beto" Vega for his special care. Pallbearers will be Alejandro Fuentes Jr., Alan Henricks, Guillermo Guerrero Hernandez, Carlos de Ajuria, Marco Gonzalez and Ricardo Sanchez Amieva.
