San Benito, Texas/ Lawton, Oklahoma- Nellie Lee McGee, 92, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2012 in Lawton. Nellie was born on October 30, 1919 in San Benito, Texas to Fred Hudson and Nellie Camella (Walker) Christiansen. She grew in San Benito, graduating from San Benito High School. She worked in a naval observatory in Washington, DC during WWII and later worked in the Boeing Aircraft Factory in Seattle, Washington. She met her husband, Thomas Earl McGee at church in San Antonio, Texas and they married on April 11, 1946. She and Earl traveled with the Air Force until they retired to South Texas. Mr. McGee passed away on November 29, 1985. Nellie worked civil service as a secretary and received several achievements awards including the long time employee award. She retired in 1974. Nellie moved to Lawton in 2002 to be close to her family. She was devoted to the church and sang in the church choir for most of her life. She liked to dance, cook and garden. She was a porcelain artist and china painter for over 15 years. She received numerous awards and ribbons in recognition of her artistry. She was the secretary and historian for her china painting club in San Benito, Texas for several years. She was a member of First Baptist East in Lawton and a former long time member of the Border Land Baptist Church in San Benito. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Fred Christiansen II, her sister, Marie Waldmuller. She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Thomas Michael and Mary McGee, of Harlingen, Texas; her daughter and son in law, Gloria and Jim Lewis, of Lawton, Oklahoma; her brothers and sisters in law, Bill and Nadine Christiansen, of Kingsville, Texas and Don and Maria Christiansen, of San Benito, Texas; her sister, Louise Hayes, of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren, James McGee and his wife, Mandy, of Oklahoma City, Matt Lewis and his wife, Sarah, of Forney, Texas and Mike Lewis, of Austin, Texas; and four great grandchildren, Gabrielle, Kelsey, Kimberly and Olivia , all of Oklahoma City. A funeral service was held on Friday, February 17, 2012 at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Lawton, Oklahoma. Services will also be held at on Monday, February 20, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomae Garza Funeral Home with Rev. Jesse Camacho, pastor of Borderline Calvary Temple, officiating. Burial will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas. Words of Comfort may be sent to the family of Nellie McGee at www.thomaegarza.com.
