Obituary of Elena Hernandez

Elena Hernandez, 92, of San Benito, Texas passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2019 in Harlingen, Texas, a day before her 93^rd birthday.

Elena Hernandez was an amazing woman who always put her unwavering faith and family first. She truly enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and nature. Her talents were many, including making the best tamales, rice and tortillas. She was a good mentor, role model and always had good advice and words of wisdom for her family. Elena also loved to sing and hum to her favorite songs, much to the delight of those who heard her. She was endlessly devoted to her children and grandchildren, and to those who knew her well.  She will greatly be missed by her family and friends.

Elena is preceded in death by her husband, Esequiel Hernandez; parents, Jose and Eulogia Benavidez; brother, Juan Jose Benavidez; and sisters, Guadalupe Delgado, Carolina Torres, and Maria Luisa Hernandez.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Isabel (Manuel) Ayala, Minerva (Andy) Anzaldua, Esequiel (Yolanda) Hernandez, Reynaldo (Cindy) Hernandez, Jose Luis (Birrie) Hernandez, and Elena Hernandez; grandchildren, Emmanuel Jude Ayala, Angelica (George) Anaya, Nyssa Hernandez, Adriana (Rolando) Posada, Amanda Hernandez, Ezequiel R. Hernandez, Brisa Hernandez, and Karla Hernandez; five great grandchildren, Anahi, Alejandra, Andrea, and Arianna Posada, and Isabel Anaya; and brothers Ramon Benavidez, Inocencio Benavidez, Heriberto Benavidez; and sister Linda Benavidez.

Visitation will begin Friday, March 22, 2019, from 12:00 noon to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with interment to follow at San Jose Ranch Cemetery.
