Obituary of Ramiro Z. Martinez

Ramiro Z. “El Perro” Martinez, 71, of Laguna Vista, Texas passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at his residence in Laguna Vista.

Ramiro was a lifetime resident of Port Isabel, Texas who had a passion for welding, fishing, dancing, and working. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Ramiro enjoyed gambling, especially going to bingo and playing chalupa with his wife. He was a little league coach who also enjoyed carpentry projects, cruising shrimping docks, getting oysters, and watering the grass with a natural light in hand. Ramiro was a collector of people’s trash which became his treasure.

He is preceded in death by his son, Abraham Martinez; granddaughter, Chastidy Martinez; parents, Candelario and Mariana Z. Martinez; 6 brothers; and 2 sisters.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 54 years, Hermelinda G. “Melin” Martinez; loving children, Venustiano “Tuffy” (Elizabeth) Martinez, Tilda “Mimi” (Karin) Guzman, Yara Nelly “Yara” (Alex) Martinez, and his christian son, Adolfo “Fito” Zamora; eight grandchildren, Amberly (Noe) Calvillo, Ramiro Venustiano Martinez, Roxanne (DeKarlton) Mills, Kordell Martinez, Abraham “Bio” Villagran, Melinda Nicole Guzman, Karin Guzman, Jr., and his grandson on the way, Ramsey Ben Martinez; seven great grandchildren, Anastacia Galvan, Genaro Galvan, Yenziel Calvillo, Khloe Mills, Kenzley Mills, Elijah Villagran, and Abryana Villagran; father-in-law, Alonso “Poncho” Gonzalez; one sister; three brothers; and several nephews, nieces, and other relatives.

Visitation will begin Friday, March 8, 2019, from 12:00 noon to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas.

Cremation will follow.
