Obituary of Asela De La Garza-Martinez

Asela “ Sally” De La Garza-Martinez, 84 of Port Isabel, Texas, entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 24, 2018 in Brownsville, Texas.

Sally was a lifetime resident of Port Isabel, a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church and an active member of the Spanish Choir. For many years she was a co-owner of The Little Flower Shop in Laguna Heights. Sally was a diehard fan of the Port Isabel Tarpon and Dallas Cowboys.

She is preceded in death by her son, Benito Soto Jr.; 1st husband, Benito Soto Sr. and 2nd husband, Jose Martinez; 1 granddaughter, Monica Soto; her parents, Trine and Augustina Chapa De La Garza.

Sally is survived by her loving children, Tina Grace Rodriguez, Richard (Olga) Soto and Joe Alex Soto; daughter in law, Rachel Soto;  1 brother, Ciro De La Garza; 1 sister, Mary Lou Kramer; 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; as well as 1 nephew which she help raised, Carlos Robles.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2018, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. Visitation will continue from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a holy rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St. in Port Isabel, Texas.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 28, 2018 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. In accordance to her wishes cremation will follow.

Pallbearers will be Richard Soto, Joe Alex Soto, Martin Cantu Jr., Jacob Soto, Joshua Soto, Anthony Samaniego, Ciro De La Garza and Richard Soto Jr.
