Obituary of Jose Luis Aviña

Today our family lost one of the most kindhearted man we have ever known. Jose Luis Aviña passed at the age of 67. There will never be another person like him.

Jose was a resident of Los Fresnos, Texas. He was the man who instilled in us hard work, being kind hearted, and taught us how to give the shirt off your back to someone in need. “You were the first man we knew and identified as husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and because of you, we are who we are. Thank you for everything you did for us. Your heart and love will always be felt and cherished. We love you and will always miss you.” You were a father not only to your children but to so many others.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ramon Aviña Sr; and two brothers, Miguel Angel Aviña and Victor Aviña.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 44 ½ years, Maria Elia Aviña; his children: Maria Adriana (Miguel Angel) Mendez, Jose Esteban (Lourdes) Aviña, Anabel (Robert) Constante, and Everardo (Julietta) Aviña. Also surviving is his mother, Catalina Nuñez Aviña; siblings: Ramon Aviña Jr., Ruben Aviña, Saul Aviña, and Tere Valdiva;  as well as his grandchildren: Enrique Gonzalez, Derrek Aviña, Devin Aviña, Yesenia Esparza, and Isela Acosta.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. Visitation will continue on Friday, July 13, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a holy rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Los Fresnos, Texas. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas.

Serving as pallbearers will be members of the family.
