Obituary of Vidal Cantu
Vidal G. Cantu, 82, of Port Isabel, Texas passed away on August 31, 2017 in Port Isabel, Texas.
Vidal G. Cantu Sr was a simple but very proud man. He graduated in the 8th grade from Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church and then completed his 10th grade in Port Isabel High School. He married the love of his life, Rachel Cantu. They had four daughters and one son. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed his family vacations.
He was preceded in death by: his father, Merced Cantu, Sr., his mother Lydia Cantu, and two brothers Merced Cantu Jr. and Isaac Cantu.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Rachel Galvan Cantu; his children: Frances (Inocente) Zurita, Eva Cantu, Cynthia (Joe) Cespedes, Vidal Cantu, Jr., Patricia (Johnny) Rodriguez; siblings: Juan (Rebecca) Cantu, Lupita (Jesus Sr.) Abrego, and Juanita Sollazo; sisters-in-law: Pilar Cantu and Emma Cantu; eight grandsons: Jason Cespedes, Daniel Zunita, Jonathan Powers, Brandon Powers, Jeremy Cespedes, Jared Cespedes, John Rodriguez, and Robert Rodriguez; one granddaughter, Rachel Zurita; and five great-grandchildren: Nathaniel Zurita, Emilie Gonzalez, Emmerline Gonzalez, Sydnee Lucio, and Ava Powers.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 3, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria Street in Port Isabel, Texas.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 4, 2017 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Cremation will follow in accordance to his wishes.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in care of the Bereavement Committee, 705 S. Longoria St., Port Isabel, Texas 78578.
Serving as pallbearers are his grandchildren: Jason Vidal Cespedes, Daniel Inocente Zurita, John Patrick Rodriguez, Jeremy Joe Cespedes, Jared Anthony Cespedes, Robert Vidal Rodriguez, Jonathan C. Powers, and Brandon M. Powers.
