Obituary of Sofia Alaniz Torres

Una vida bien hecha – con el amor y a la manera de Sofía Alaniz Torres, 95 – llegó al fín el 12 de Agosto, 2017. (A body spent by old age, she died peacefully in her sleep.) Born on April 3, 1922, in Rancho Las Lomas, Mexico, Sofía was a lifelong resident of Port Isabel and a person like none other. She was a woman of indomitable spirit and courage and the matriarch of a large extended family whose tough-love and influence touched the lives of many. We honor a life hard-fought and well lived. Sofía vive siempre en nuestro corazón.
She is predeceased by her husband Tomas C. Torres, her parents Cecilio Garza Alaniz+ and Catarina Montelongo Gonzalez+, brothers Hermeregildo G. Alaniz+ (Rebecca), Sandalio G. Alaniz+ (Socorro), Leon G. Alaniz+ (Carmela+) Guadalupe G. Alaniz+ (Concepcion+), and Sisters, Maria Emma Alaniz Garza+ (Luciano+) and Maria Guadalupe Alaniz+.
She is survived by her children Juana María Alegria (Ricardo Madrigal), Cipriano Alberto Alegria (Maria de los Angeles), Annabell Alegria (Felix Recio) and Nelda Torres-Najera (Enrique). She is also survived by her brothers: Benito Alaniz (Vicenta), Cecilio Alaniz Sr. (Eduviges), Uvaldo Alaniz (Dionicia), and Leonel Alaniz (Petra).
Grandchildren: Eva Dina Delgado (Erik Varela), Adina Anne Alegria, John Albert Camacho, Michael Albert Alegria, Diego Roel Najera, Christian Daniel Lavios, Nadia Najera, Enrique Najera, Jr., and Souther Recio.
Great Grandchildren: Nicolas Cole Camacho, Isla Alegria Varela, Angelina Sofia Johnson, Jordan Isaiah Johnson, and Hannah Sofia Camacho. 
Pallbearers: Arnoldo Espinoza, Christian Daniel Lavios, Diego Roel Najera, John Albert Camacho, Michael Albert Alegria, and Nicolas Cole Camacho. 
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 21, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a holy rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St in Port Isabel, Texas. A funeral mass shall be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Cremation will follow in accordance to her wishes. A graveside service for the interment of ashes will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at Port Isabel City Cemetery.
