Obituary of Jose A. Martinez

Jose Antonio Martinez passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 9, 2017 in Harlingen, Texas.

He spent his early years in Texas and moved to California.  He worked various jobs. he then returned to Texas where he met his wife, Ofelia. They were married for 17 years. He liked to sing and listen to music.  When there was a gathering, he was one of the persons who would start singing along with the music.  He would make us laugh and enjoy the gatherings.  He loved Our Lady of Guadalupe and would celebrate her feast day.  He loved his brothers and sisters.  He enjoyed visiting with his brother-in-law, Jose Salazar, "El Tocavo".  You will be greatly missed.  

He was preceded in death by his mother Herminia Martinez, his father Francisco Martinez; two brothers, and two sisters. 

He is survived by his loving wife Ofelia Martinez; his son Daniel Martinez; brothers and sisters: Juan (JoAnna) Martinez, Francisco (Sandra) Martinez, Jr., Rosa ( Manuel) Acevedo, Policarpio (Margie) Martinez, Jaime (Lorenza) Martinez, Yolanda Maldonado, Margarita Martinez, Lupe (Bartolo) Villagomez, Ermelinda (Esteban) Soto, Raul (Delia) Martinez, Armando (Nancy) Martinez, Diamana Martinez; and 87 nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2017 from 12 noon to 9 p.m., with a holy rosary to be recited at 7 p.m., and then continue on Friday, July 13, 2017 from 12 noon to 9 p.m., with a holy rosary to be recited at 7 p.m., at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, with burial to follow at San Benito Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas.
