Simon Vega put Los Fresnos, Texas, on the map. His enthusiasm and love for this city, as well as Elvis Presley, will always be in my memory. I have a fond recollection of Mr. Vega sharing his experience of meeting the King of Rock and Roll during his service in the military. He loved his students, his city, and his family. A good man, Simon Vega.

Mr. Simon was an amazing man with a huge heart. He welcomed me into his home and gave me a place to stay when i came to Texas. He treated me like family. For me he is family and always will be. I remember him showing me letters he had written to Teresa many years ago. How his face would light up. You could see it that she is the love of his life. I will for sure miss him. But i know he is in a much better place. May you Rest In Peace Mr. Simon. I love you.

(Is. 40:26.)

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family -- Simon was an institution in Los Fresnos --- I am reading the book Eva Garcia Hernandez (Roy Garcia's sister) wrote about growing up by Tandy 's corner and her family's life in LF --- as I read thru it Simon was mentioned in it several times which made a nice "walk down memory lane" for me ---- I believe he played on a baseball team the Garcia brothers played on .
Also a few years ago as we were traveling we stopped in Memphis and did the whole Elvis tourist thing --- I bought several books and as I read them I could not think of Elvis without thinking of Simon at the same time --- in my mind the two went together--- Simon is to thank for keeping the history of Elvis alive in Los Fresnos
May you rest in peace thy good and faithful servant.
