Johnny had been working as a cook at the Jetties Restaurant for a few years after having served in the U.S. Army... that's where I got to know and appreciate how much of an example he was to all of us who were summer employees and about to enter freshman year in the fall. He was not only hard-working and loyal to his employer, but also willing to help any of us learn how to become better human beings. I bought my first pair of Mason shoes from him and still remember his salesmanship. Remember how we would hitch rides on Garcia Street to get to the Jetties and can still picture him walking everywhere he went. May God reserve a special place for you in Heaven primo.
Wish I could be in P.I. to attend the services. My condolences to each member of his family.
Growing up at the Jetties Restaurant, I remember John always asking me as I walked in "What would you like to eat?" I could ask for anything and there it was. He could make some AWESOME enchiladas.......and french fries and cream gravy! Always with a smile on his face.
My prayers for the family........God Bless John
John was a big part of my life. He worked with my parents at the Jetties Restaurant for the whole time they owned the business. He was a great man. Always called me Mr. Middleton (even though I was a kid at the time) and I was amazed at his ability for cooking. He could grab those hot French fries out of the fryer like they were nothing! I saw him just a few months ago walking in Port Isabel and had a nice conversation with him. He always made sure he called my Mother, Mary Louise on her birthday. She loved him and he loved her. John, you will be missed and my life is better getting the opportunity to know you. RIP John.
