Obituary of Claude Louis Marzenell, Jr

Claude Louis “Buzz” Marzenell Jr., 87, of San Benito, Texas, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2017 in San Benito, Texas.
Claude was born to Claude “Buzz” Marzenell and Mildred (Malone) on April 16, 1929 in Louisville, Kentucky. He moved with his parents to Cleveland, Ohio, where he spent his elementary school years. He and his parents then moved to Harlingen, Texas where he graduated from Harlingen High School and entered the United States Marine Corps. Upon discharge, he was employed by the Valley Morning Star as a typesetter in Harlingen. He then moved to Aberdeen, South Dakota where he was employed by the American News as a typesetter and later computer foreman. He retired after a stroke 30 years later. Because of his love for God and serving his country in the Marine Corps, he was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. He married Joyce Elaine (Ernst) 1950-1997 in Aberdeen and had eight children. After her death, he married Rosalie (Caminita) 1998-2007 in San Benito, Texas where he made his home after retirement. He enjoyed fishing, coin collecting and history. He traveled the United States and loved map reading and geography. He was a life member of the Marine Corps League (Global Division) of Aberdeen, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans of both Texas and South South Dakota, where he served as South Dakota state commander in 1983/84. He was also a life member of the Paralyzed Veterans of America, a life member of the VFW Post 17, the American Legion Post 24, and Good Sam Club; as well as the North American Fisherman, AARP, American Numismatic Assn., and a member of St. John Lutheran Church of San Benito, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Joyce; and his wife Rosalie; one son, Claude L. (Jack) Marzenell III; and his sister, Virginia Ruth Seals of Thibodaux, LA.
Claude is survived by four sons: Timothy (Julia) Marzenell of Aberdeen, Steve Marzenell of Aberdeen, Guy (Cathy) Marzenell of Aberdeen, Todd (Nikki) Marzenell of Hermosa, SD; three daughters: Peggy (Joe) Burton of Omaha, NE, Kay (Tom) Hagemann of Rapid City, SD, Becky (Doug) Tarver of Aberdeen; his step-children: Stewart (Cheri) Henry of Covington, LA, Greg (Donna) Henry of Metaire, LA, Madge Henry of Covington, LA and Debbie (Peter) Kirkconnell of Los Fresnos, TX; 23 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, March 24, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church located at 1000 N Crockett St, San Benito, TX. Funeral services will be held in Aberdeen, South Dakota at a later date under the care of Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home.
