San Pedro/Brownsville- Israel Cañas, 75, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Israel loved to socialize with family and friends while enjoying music. He will be dearly missed and loved. He is preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Guadalupe Longoria Cañas; and one son Israel Cañas, Jr.; one sister Hilda Tapia. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Irene Cañas Cantu, Maria Elena (Baldomero) Peña, Gloria Robles, and Isabel Cañas. Also surviving him are his siblings: Josefa Martinez of Sterling, IL, Isabel Cruz of San Benito, TX, Cruzita Perez of Houston, TX and Francisco Cañas, Jr of Los Indios, TX; He is also survived by Six grandchildren; Seven great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Tuesday November 22, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at San Pedro Catholic Church in San Pedro, Texas with burial to follow at Tapia Family Cemetery in San Pedro, Texas.
