Guillermo Cantu Sr., 77, of Port Isabel, Texas, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2016 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas. Mr. Cantu was employed with the Laguna Madre Water District for over 30 years. He was born and raised in Port Isabel and a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Port Isabel. His passion was carpentry and he loved listening to music and working on shrimpboats. He was preceded in death by his wife, Angelica Garza Cantu; one daughter, Paula Cantu; parents, Maximo and Paula Martinez Cantu; one brother, Pedro Cantu; and one sister, Lucilla Gonzalez. He is survived by one daughter, Angelica (Sufian) Hashash; three sons: Guillermo (Raquel) Cantu, Jr., Jose Maximo Cantu, Felipe Cantu; ten grandchildren: Christopher Perez, Angelica E. Perez, Guillermo Cantu III, Rebecca Cantu, Jose Maximo Cantu Jr., Raquel Angelica Cantu, Gabriel Omar Cantu, Jamil Hashash, Sanora Cantu, and Nabil Fisher; seven great-grandchildren: Madeline Perez, Ethan Gaytan, Lucas Perez, Gisell Gayton, Phillip Perez, Helena Juarez, and Nagia Oubda; three brothers: Maximo Cantu, Juan Cantu, and Apolonio Cantu; and two sisters: Cresencia Rivera and Sofia Ochoa. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a holy rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. Visitation will continue on Monday, August 8, 2016 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St. in Port Isabel from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral mass hour at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Port Isabel City Cemetery.
