Lorance Whitman Bodden, 82, of Port Isabel, TX passed away Saturday, July 23, 2016 in Laguna Vista, TX. Whitman was a resident of Laguna Heights and a member of the Our Lady Star of the Sea community, where he served as an usher at the Laguna Heights Center. He was born in Jonesville, Roatan, Honduras and went to sea at the age of 13. He moved to Port Isabel in 1960, with his wife and three children. Over the next 50 years, Whitman built successful businesses in the shrimping industry and real estate. A beloved husband, loving father, brother, doting grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed Sunday barbecuing after church, backyard entertaining, country music, spending time with his family, spoiling his grandchildren and tending to his flowers and plants. Throughout retirement Whitman always loved the water and yearned for another day at sea. He is preceded in death by his parents William Garfield Bodden and Crisabell Leurie Pouchie, brothers; Johnny Athens Bodden, William Garfield “Keith” Bodden Jr., William Jonathan Otis Bodden, sisters, Gloria Joyce Bodden, Florence Bodden, one son Whitman William Bodden and son in law Federico Gonzalez Jr. Left to cherish his memory is loving wife Rosa Marie Padilla, children Rosa Gonzalez, daughter in law Marianella Bodden, Luis A. (Vicky) Bodden, John (Marcy) Bodden Sr., Gloria Bodden, Wilbur Bodden and Daisy Bodden. Also surviving Whitman are his sisters, Linnnie Bodden Christian, Daisy C. Bodden and Evelyn Cristabell Dixon as well as 21 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 25, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home. Visitation will continue from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a holy rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St in Port Isabel, Texas. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church with cremation services to follow in accordance with his wishes. Serving as pallbearers will be Andrew Jon Gonzalez, Laurence Gabriel Gonzalez, Whitman Lorance Bodden, William Johnathan Bodden, John-Lorance Whitman Bodden, John Bodden Jr., Miles Kenneth Floyd Wheeler and Saul David Ochoa.
