Joe B. Saldivar, 64, of Port Isabel, Texas, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2016 in Brownsville, Texas. Joe Saldivar was a loved father, grandfather, son, uncle, brother, and friend that will be dearly missed. He sacrificed 34 years in the Gulf of Mexico as a shrimper. His passion for fishing gave him a keen sense of the tides and currents to gauge the perfect fishing time. You could always find him cleaning the latest catch of seafood to be shared with many. He returned to work on land at the Long Island Swing Bridge for 13 years. You were sure to get a wave if you passed by. He had a love of devouring his wife’s home cooked meals. Many days spent with family and friends were filled with laughter because of his humor. He was also enthusiastic about America’s team, the Dallas Cowboys. He will forever be remembered and the memories of his life will forever be in our hearts. He was preceded in death by his son, Jesus Guerrero; his mother, Francisca Barron; and father, Teodoro C. Saldivar; two sisters: Maria del Rosario Barron and Juanita Barron. Surviving Joe is his loving wife of 46 years, Maximina Tovar Saldivar; three daughters: Rosario Saldivar, Ana Lilia (Gavino) Zarate, Sonia Guerrero; seven sons: Joe (Evelyn) Saldivar, Jr., Miguel (Marrisa) Saldivar, Ismael (Nicole) Saldivar, Ted (Mayte) Saldivar, Al (Julie) Saldivar, Vicente (Letty) Guerrero, Manuel (Alicia) Guerrero; 20 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four brothers: Johnny Castillo, Alvaro Rocha, Alberto Saldivar, Calvin Reyes; four sisters: Adela Contreras, Cecilia Reyes, Socorro Rodriguez, and Esperanza Rodriguez. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 9, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a holy rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas.
