Obituary of Jose Zapata

Jose Francisco Zapata, 64, of Port Isabel, TX, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX.
He was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church and a lifetime resident of Port Isabel. He was a Vietnam veteran who served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged.
He is preceded in death by his father, Eliodoro Zapata Sr.; one brother, Eliodoro Zapata Jr.; and three sisters: Hortencia Ochoa, Felicitas Medrano, and Amanda Banda; followed by his mother Juanita Gonzalez Zapata who passed on October, 25, 2011.
Jose is survived by his loving sisters: Agustina Rivera (Seferino), Carlota Osorio (late Mauro), Christina Galvan (late Santana), Enriqueta Rose (late Donald), Maria Elena Rivera (Simon), and Lucila Castillo (Pete); and one brother, Roberto Medrano (Esmeralda). He also is survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 28, 2011 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. Visitation will continue from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with a Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 pm, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St., Port Isabel, TX.
Mass of Resurrection will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 10:00 am at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Port Isabel. Committal service will follow to Port Isabel City Cemetery in Port Isabel, TX. Military Honors will be conducted at graveside by American Legion Post # 498, V.F.W. Post #8791 of Port Isabel and V.F.W. Post #2035 under the directions of Commander Luis Lucio of Brownsville, Texas.
