Allene Hopwood, 88, passed into Our Lord's Heavenly kingdom peacefully on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 with Chaplain David Mann and her family by her side following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Allene was born June 21, 1927 to Dock and Ethel Watson, the youngest of 8 children. A lifelong Valley resident and member of the Rio Hondo Community, Allene married Brit Hopwood on November 24, 1960. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Clayton, Helen, Lee, Lucille, Henry, Mary and their spouses; and her husband of 34 years, Brit.Five days later on February 14, 2016, Allene was joined by sister and best friend, Mildred (Leon) Coates. Left to cherish her memories are her children: Teresa (Randy) Stephens, Wade (Tammy) Hopwood; grandchildren: Chris (Veronica) Stephens, Matthew (Anaid) Stephens, Rachel (Dan) Bernal; great grandchildren: Alanna and Caden; family and friends who will miss the special woman they loved and admired. Graveside memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 22, 2016 at Mont Meta Memorial Park Mausoleum in San Benito, Texas. The family wishes to extend a very special “Thank You!” to Angel Care and Merida Hospice staff members for the excellent care provided.
