Ofelia Cortez, 88, of San Benito, Texas, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2016 in Harlingen, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eluterio and Josefa Rodriguez; her husband, Abel Cortez, Sr.; two brothers, Jose Rodriguez and Roberto Rodriguez; three sisters: Guadalupe Huerta, Rosa Salazar, and Elvira Estrada; and two great-great-grandsons, Jose H. Roa III and Mario Elijah Cortez. She is survived by her children: Juan Abel (Julia) Cortez, Jr., Alma Nora (Jose H.) C. Limon, and Rosa Cortez; 12 grandchildren: Juan Abel Cortez III, Roberto (Sonia) Cortez, Eluterio Cortez, Jose H. (Emma) Limon, Jr., Nora (Humberto) L. Rocha, Rosita (Pedro) Roa, Jose (Michelle) H. Roa Jr., Julissa (Felipe) Roa, Marco (Stephanie) Cortez, Mario Cortez, and Jhonny (Leorissa) Mendoza, Yvonne L. (Eric) Garcia; 32 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 8, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a holy rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
