Maria Virginia Casares Teran, 88, of Rio Hondo, passed away Monday, January 4, 2016 at her residence. Maria was born in Mercedes Texas to her late parents, Trinidad and Piedad Casares. She married her husband, Guadalupe Teran and raised nine children and four grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Guadalupe Teran, son, Ricardo (Maria Cecilia) C. Teran, grandson, Conrado (Rita) Escobar Jr., sister, Juanita C. Sauceda and two brothers. Left to cherish her memories are her children: Rene C. (Georgina) Teran, Raquel T. Hinojosa, Concepcion T. (David) Castro, Maria Virginia (Gilbert) De La Garza, Hilaria (Gilbert) Barrientos, Leticia (Frank) Dornak, Guadalupe (Alma) Teran Jr., Thelma Keyes, and three grandchildren she raised as her own: Belinda Escobar, Roberto (Corina) Escobar and Gilbert (Sunshine) Escobar; 34 grandchildren; 53 great grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae Garza Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at St. Helens Catholic Church in Rio Hondo Texas, with burial to follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito Texas. Family wishes to thank Gentiva Hospice staff especially her nurse Dan Montemayor for his tender care, Chaplin Jacinto Flores and Eucharist Minister, Frank Gonzales. Also thanks to everyone who prayed for our mom, visited with her and made her days brighter in their special ways, we publicly want to thank our oldest sister Rachel for her devoted care to our mother till her last day.
