San Benito, Texas: Humberto L "Beto" Villarreal, 84 Loving Husband of 60 years of Alicia V "Licha" Villarreal (deceased), FATHER of Dr. Minerva Campos, Yolanda Ryan, esq , Joey Villarreal, RPh, and Dr. Noralisa Trott; FATHER IN LAW of Roel Campos, Joseph Ryan, Jo Ann Villarreal and Matthew Trott; GRANDFATHER of Cristobal Villarreal (Cris), Jacobo Villarreal (Jake), Jose Ezequiel Villarreal (Zeke), David Campos and Daniel Campos, and Sylvia Ryan; GREAT GRANDFATHER of Jayden Villarreal, Sage Villarreal and Mateo Villarreal; BROTHER of Juanita Villarreal, Beatrice Thompson, Arnoldo Villarreal and Cristina Wyatt; UNCLE of Cecilia, Lester, Aleida, Alisa, Hondo, Tony, Arnold, Carlos, Iris, Itza; FRIEND of Tere Perez, Eva de los Santos, Polly Moody, Betty Winters, Dr. Eugene Nunnery, Linda Soto, all the staff at La Hacienda and countless others; left this earth to be with Jesus Christ on October 22, 2011. Beto proudly served as a Merchant Mariner in the Pacific theater, having gone through United States Coast Guard training aboard the "American Sailor" part of the United States Maritime Commission fleet. Returning home in 1949 he married Alicia Velez from Brownsville, the love of his life. He fondly told stories of "hitching" rides at all hours of the day just so he could see his future bride. He then became a Crosly Appliance salesman and quickly was offered the Crosly Appliance Franchise in San Benito and he opened San Benito Appliance Co. Ever the skilled salesman he was subsequently awarded some of the most prestigious appliance franchises in the industry, including Maytag, Friedrich, Fedders and Philco. He expanded into retail propane delivery under the name Villarreal Butane, which serviced a large part of Cameron County with home fuel. He was offered, and he successfully ran the first Hispanic owned Ford Tractor Franchise in the United States under the name Villarreal Ford Tractor. A lifelong resident of San Benito, Beto even found time to serve on the SBCISD school board. That's when he wasn't grilling some sort of meat. Countless stories abound of Beto's carnes asadas, a hobby whose delicious product he generously shared with friends and family, throughout his life. No one was a stranger to Beto, and he was proud to say that he knew Jesus and is probably having quite the conversation with Him (and Licha) even now. Beto, you will be missed. Visitation will be held on Monday October 24, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home Chapel.
