Edwin “Ed.” Wallace Basse, 65, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at his home in Rio Hondo, Texas. Ed, as he was called by his friends, was born in Harlingen, Texas, on June 18, 1950 to Wallace Frazier Basse and Loraine Mathilda Manthei Basse. He was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in San Benito, Texas. He spent much of his work life in theater work, beginning as a projectionist for Harlingen theaters. This led him to starting his own theater lighting business and working various shows in the Valley such as, Reba McEntire, Johnny Cash, Miss USA and many others. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of twenty one years, Christine Ward Basse (July 29, 2015); his parents: Wallace and Loraine Basse; two nephews: Michael David Hensz and Mark Daniel Hensz. Ed is survived by his sister, Marilyn (David) Hensz of Harlingen; his niece, Lisa Hensz of Pflugerville, Texas; his cousin, Ben (Susan) Moody of Dallas, Texas; his stepdaughter, Michelle Curtis of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and stepson, Michael (Marisa) Curtis of Brownsville, Texas. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 602 Morgan, Harlingen, Texas. Pastor Dustin Kear of St. Paul Lutheran Church will be officiating.
